Hmm….where shall I start…? I have been inspired to compile mom’s recipes and do up a cookbook for the longest time. Never had the chance because I was always tied up with work…work and more work…but I’m really so happy that I have finally started and launching it soon. First thing that came to my mind when I was planning for the cookbook…when was the first time I tried cooking all by myself (mentored by Mom) of course and what my very first dish was. I had to think long and hard hahaha…seriously can’t remember…but I think it was fried rice :)
Mom had no cooking experience at all when she first started as a cook in Townsville Institute in Singapore. She persevered and was always willing to learn and try out new recipes. Mom was initially nervous because she had to cook for hundreds of students but soon it was a breeze.
Mom was the cook for family gatherings too. My friends and colleagues would always look forward to Hari Raya when Mom would prepare a huge spread of yummy food. My task in the kitchen was the preparation bit…the not so fun part…hahaha like cleaning the seafood especially fish and squid…eeewww black ink all over the place.
There was a time when we were supplying snacks to a small food stall and I had to clean 24 kilos of Selar fish every week and packing a few hundred packets of Nasi Lemak in a day starting from 4am!! All so worth it :)
Mom was working as a cook in a few other places after that and gained more experience in cooking for big numbers. Mom was always cooking and thinking of new recipes all the time and still is, until today.
Bless you Mom…thank you for all the life lessons and guidance…♥ you!!
